Term Definition
Circulatory System A system in the body made up of the heart, blood vessels, and blood that carries blood around the body.Health problems include heart attacks or blood disorders.
Digestive System The parts of the body that work together to break down food so that it can be used by the body as energy. Includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, and intestines. Mouth is the first organ responsible for breaking food down into energy.
Endocrine System The system that works closely with the nervous system to help regulate the bodya??s growth and development, mood, tissue function, metabolism and reproductive processes. Made of groupings of cells that secrete chemical messengers called hormones.
Immune System The bodily system of organs, tissues, cells, and cell products, which protects the body by detecting and disabling microorganisms that cause disease.
Lymphatic System a network of vessels that helps keep the level of fluid in the body balanced. It absorbs excess fluid called lymph from body tissues and returns it to the bloodstream. Primary function is to carry a clear,infection-fighting liquid throughout the body.
Muscular System The system that gives the body its shape and helps it move. It is made up of muscles that expand and contract.
Nervous System The system of nerves and nerve centers in most animals with more than one cell.The nerves and brain are parts of the nervous system in humans.
Respiratory System The system that brings oxygen to the body. Made up of the lungs, diaphragm, windpipe, and nasal passages.
Skeletal System The system that provides structure and support to the body, stores minerals, creates blood cells, protects your internal organs, and helps the body move.The skeletal system consists of all the bones, tendons, joints and ligaments.
Excretory System The system that gets rid of waste in the form of excess liquid and heat energy. Includes thekidneys, which produce urine, liquid waste.
